JOB SUMMARY:

Performs complex clerical tasks in maintaining financial accounts and records; does related work as required and requested.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

Positions in this class involve responsibility for independently performing difficult financial record-keeping tasks. The work is performed, in most instances, under general supervision but employees in this class may make independent decisions in certain individual cases. Supervisors are available for consultation on unusual problems and to give detailed instructions on all new assignments. Supervision may be exercised over Account Clerk I and other clerical employees. Employees whose positions are allocated to this class for position classification purposes may be deputized to make clerical and supervisory actions effective.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Processes financial and non-financial reporting orders, assuring that all information is correct and up-to-date;

Updates computer case files as necessary.

Sends out copies of appropriate documents to parties;

Processes insurance updates on cases;

Assists with title searches;

Review cases for financial information;

Reviews moneys on hold and determines if it should be released;

Accepts payments and post to appropriate account;

Retrieve daily mail from the Commissioner’s Office;

Update filing with case documents;

Answers telephone and relays information as needed;

Orders office supplies and verifies receipt;

Close cases as appropriate;

Contact other courts regarding arrears issues, upon request;

Performs a wide variety of duties related to above tasks.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have the ability to record, convey, and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions;

Must be able to sit for long periods of time with frequent periods of standing, walking, and occasional twisting, reaching, pulling, and pushing required for obtaining files, doing inspections or other job duties;

Dexterity requirements range from simple to complex movements of fingers/hands, legs/feet, or torso to carry out job duties;

Sedentary work with occasional lifting, 15-20 pounds;

Must demonstrate emotional stability;

Ability to cope with physical and mental stress of the position;

Must be able to pay close attention to detail and concentrate on work.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Good knowledge of modern account-keeping practices; some knowledge of professional accounting practices; ability to follow complex oral and written directions and to prepare complex fiscal reports; some knowledge of the principles underlying State and County laws and regulations pertaining to County government; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; initiative; integrity. Completion of a high school diploma or GED equivalency.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE and TRAINING:

Considerable experience as an account clerk, some of which shall have involved the performance of moderately difficult clerical tasks at the level of Account Clerk I. Completion of a standard high school course, preferably supplemented by business school or college courses in accounting; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
